B12 - Future of Social Media

A bittersweet goodbye... for now. This semester has been great, and I've enjoyed writing for this blog. I've learned a lot, and I'm excited to see what I can do with the tools I've learned in this class. As my last topic for this blog, I wanted to discuss the future of social media and predictions about fashion trends. The first trend I keep seeing is flip-flops with jeans! I personally think this trend is very fun. I used to not be a fan of flip-flops, but now I keep seeing really cute flip-flops, which I think could elevate an outfit. If you look at the photo to the right, the girl has on cheetah print flip-flops. This is a fun idea to add some personality to a plain outfit. If she wore a pair of sneakers instead of flip-flops, it would be a different vibe to the outfit.

This trend is not new at all; in fact, in the 2000s, flip-flops with jeans were HUGE. Everybody wanted a pair of either fun flip flops or platform flip flops. Platform flip-flops should make a comeback this summer. People are finally getting out of their comfort zones, trying new styles. I hope this summer we will see more personalized style outfits rather than the fashion trends.

Social media is very powerful and I think with time it will only get more intense. My recommendation is to take a step back from social media once in a while, because sometimes we tend to base our personality around social media and how much pop culture we know. We need to go back to the days were everybody had their own opinion and ideas, rather than getting it from social media. After taking this course, I feel like I have a better understanding of how social media works, and how powerful it can be.

B11 - Avoiding Social Media Pitfalls

Hey guys, I hope your week is going well. This week has been pretty good. I like being busy. Only two more weeks of school, which is insane. Just wanted to say thanks to everybody who's read this, and hopefully you enjoyed it. Not sure if I will keep this blog up, but who knows, maybe I'll start writing over the summer.

Blue Origin is the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of an individual or company that faced a social media crisis. This is a recent topic as it happened on April 14th, 2025. 4 women, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn, joined Katy Perry in going to space. The expectation of this was that it was a feminist move to showcase that women can do anything. While it was a good message and an important message to send out, the message was not well received.  The backlash went far and wide across the internet, and it was the number one trending topic on almost all social media platforms. This news buzzed around for a few days and later died down. I think one thing they did as a whole is that they didn't go silent. Every member continued to post on their social media and talk about it. I think this tactic only works sometimes; most of the time, people would go silent and then later come out with a statement.
